Activities & Enrichment
A variety of extracurricular clubs and activities are offered at NFMS. Most activities and clubs take place after school so that students can either be picked up by a parent or be taken home by the 4:00 p.m. late bus. The only exception is chorus, which meets before school one or more days per week. Chorus students are permitted to ride the high school bus to school on rehearsal days. Please see the link below to learn more about the chorus.
A majority of middle school clubs and activities are consistently offered from year to year and include Homework Club, Success Club, Dance Club, Science Club, Math Club, and Broadcast Journalism Club. Other clubs and activities may take place one year but not the next, such as Anime Club, Literary Magazine Club, Weather Club, Flag Football Intramural, Art Club, and Drama Club.
The Yearbook Committee is responsible for producing our award-winning NFMS Yearbook. The Student Council runs school dances, school spirit days, and other activities designed to promote school spirit. Each of our six grade level teams sponsor activities of their choice to foster team-building. The world language department hosts Heritage Day and a celebration of Cinco de Mayo.
The band program combines in-school and after-school practice leading to two school concerts and at least one state and/or regional competition per year. In addition to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band, students can participate in Jazz Band or a string ensemble.
During the 2009-2010 school year, a Talent Show, an Evening of the Arts, and a production of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow are planned. Other enrichment opportunities that will be available to middle school students are Odyssey of the Mind, Stock Market Simulation, and Creative Thinkers.
Middle School Chorus - The Middle School Chorus meets before school and performs two in-school and evening concerts each year. In addition, they work with the choral ensembles of the High School and Meeting House Hill School to present a combined choral concert of over 200 singers. Since the New Fairfield Middle School Chorus began competing at music festivals three years ago, they have received no score under a 92 of a possible 100, winning two superior ratings and one gold plaque.
