Welcome to New Fairfield Middle School!

Students are our “business,” and we go the extra mile every day to nurture and support them.  Three guidance counselors provide small group and individual counseling to students as a result of parent, staff, or self-referral.  Our social worker serves as a liaison between a student’s home, the school, and the community at large.  A substance abuse counselor provides short-term individual support to students who face issues related to substance abuse.   There is also a school-based mentoring program offering students an adult role model who can share one hour per week to talk, play games, help with homework, or just share experiences.  Members of the New Fairfield community volunteer as mentors.  This year, we are adding a Peer Leadership program pairing sixth graders with seventh or eighth graders.  We are also beginning a career clusters initiative for all students.

Enrichment is an important aspect of our students’ school experience.  Students may sign up for any intramural sports, clubs, or other after-school activities offered especially for middle schoolers.  For example, during the 2008-2009 school year, we had Homework Club, Success Club, Science Club, Magazine Club, Dance Club, Art Club, Anime Club, Yearbook Committee, Jazz Band, and String Ensembles.  Late buses were available every weekday so that students could stay after school for their favorite activities.  We had a very activeStudentCouncil, with seventh and eighth grade officers and two representatives from our 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th grade homerooms.  Student Council sponsored dances and school spirit days throughout the year.  A team of Student Council members participated in the town’s Relay for Life, and the officers attended a student leadership conference sponsored by the Connecticut Association of Schools. 

As you can see, NFMS is an exciting and bustling place to be!  We just love it here!
