New Fairfield High School

Physical Education/Health

Department Philosophy

Health: This class will be the culmination of four years of our Health and Physical Education Program. Students will explore the interrelationship of behavior and health, interactions within the human body, and the prevention of diseases, and other health problems. Comprehension of current health information and concepts enables students to become health-literate, self-directed learners, which establishes a foundation of healthy and balanced living.

Physical Education: The intent of this part of the course is the achievement of self-initiated behaviors that promote personal and group success in activity settings. These include etiquette, cooperation and teamwork, ethical behavior and positive social interaction. Key to this is similarities and differences through positive interaction among participants in physical activity. Similarities and differences include characteristics of culture, ethnicity, motor performance, disabilities, physical characteristics (e.g., strength, size, shape), gender, age, race and socioeconomic status.
