What an exciting year for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at New Fairfield High School! Our current officers had another successful year, and the newly elected offers can’t wait to start next year! Adriana Zegarelli and Katie Hogan, two upcoming seniors, will serve as our Co-Vice Presidents, assisting the president as well as maintaining our chapter webstie. Incoming junior, Jill Marmaras will be our secretary/treasurer, keeping track of our minutes, forming agendas for meetings as well as maintaining accurate financial records, while Cailin Mallory will be our historian/reporter, creating our chapter scrapbook and taking pictures at chapter functions. I, will be our chapter’s president for the upcoming school year, hoping to lead our chapter to yet another successful year.
This past year has been awesome for FBLA! We attended our local state fall leadership conference as well as running our first ever Nerf Dodgeball game. We raised over $3,500 at the game and made a donation to St. Vincent’s medical center in Bridgeport, CT. FBLA is proud to announce that we have many activities planned for the upcoming school year. Some of our chapter goals for next year include, maintaining our chapter website, winning the State Gold Chapter award, and raising membership. We will be attending the Fall Leadership Conference from November 7-8 in Baltimore. We are looking forward to seeing you in September, have a safe and enjoyable summer vacation!

The New Fairfield High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is off to a great start. The annual Haunted Graveyard trip to Lake Compunce will be on October 30th. The trip is already full and members can’t wait to go! The 2009-2010 officers (Adriana Zegarelli, Katie Hogan, Jill Marmaras, and Cailin Mallory) have already met numerous times, and we are all looking forward to a fantastic year. One of our chapter goals for this year is to obtain the gold chapter award at the state level. This has always been something we’ve aimed for, but this year we are going to do our best to obtain it. Some requirements include raising chapter membership, attending the fall leadership conference, and sponsor a candidate for state office. The FBLA chapter is lead by Mr. Joe Gargano, our chapter advisor and business department teacher.
This year our chapter is looking forward to hosting and sponsoring events within the school and community. Our first event is the 3rd Annual Powderpuff Football game. The ladies of New Fairfield High School will battle each other in a flag-football game on October 27 at Rebel stadium. Mutual Security Credit Union will sponsor the game. Our other events coming up in November are the national fall-leadership conference, in Baltimore, MD, and the 2nd Annual Nerf-Dodgeball game on November 19.

On November 19 at New Fairfield High School, the school’s chapter of FBLA held their second annual NERF Dodgeball Tournament. As opposed to last year, the event was now a double elimination competition for which all of the teams were grateful. Twenty-one teams, made up of students, faculty members, and parents participated in the tournament with over 600 spectators cheering them on. The competition was close and all the teams performed well, but the championship game came down to a spirited competition between The Punishers and Team Warturtle. Finishing the tournament victoriously was The Punishers, with Ben Read, Kevin Joyal, Jesse Broderick, Sam Reynolds, Matt Robertson, Dan Miley, Chelsea Dimyan, and Carly Hopkins.
In second place was Team Warturtle with Jason Joyal, Mitch Pepe, Robbie Fiamengo, Dylan White, Ben Kimmel, Tom Dutton, Morgan Labarbera, and Tara Donovan. The success of the night was due to the hard work of FBLA’s advisor, Mr. Gargano, and the following event coordinators; Michael Smyth, Adriana Zegarelli, Katie Hogan, Cailin Mallory, and Jill Marmaras. With the support of their generous sponsor, Mutual Security Credit Union, FBLA was able to raise over $2,000.00, which was donated to Evergreen Network INC. This donation helped to provide Thanksgiving baskets for the less fortunate. The dodgeball tournament was a great success, thanks to both the participants and spectators that came out to support this event.
