 Community Service:

The Community Service Program provides enriching opportunities in order to develop in each student a sense of responsibility to and for the community as a whole. Achieving personal growth while in the service of others is the primary goal of the program. New Fairfield High School Students are required to complete 60 hours of community service (15 hours per year). Students who fulfill the community activities requirement for expectation five of the mission statement may count these hours to fulfill the graduation requirement.

In order for NFHS students to receive academic credit, they must provide contributions or work that assist non-profit organizations in their mission to benefit society. Service may include, but is not limited to, service and support to local, state and federal governments, boards of education, hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, professional associations, volunteer fire/ambulance departments, and public educational institutions. It may also include service and support to individuals and families in need, community service organizations, political organizations, museums, libraries, youth service clubs and disaster-relief agencies.

Academic credit is not awarded by NFHS for student service and support to for-profit enterprises or any other enterprise that is intended to provide monetary profit or material gain to its sponsors.
