Our new art rooms are FABULOUS!  We are all enjoying finally being able to use clay, paint and a variety of art materials to create projects.  With two new art rooms open, all students are now able to use these great facilities.  Soon we will fire up our new kiln.  Meanwhile, the old library and lower level demolition is complete and renovations have begun to turn these areas into classrooms.  The roof over the old library is being replaced so it is great fun to watch all the construction.  Pictures below show students in art class, renovation in the lower level and the roof replacement.

Things were quiet for a while, as the workers busily worked away behind walls and closed off corridoors.  But now we have some fabulous new spaces!  We are currently moving into our new library, which is located across from the cafetorium.  It is an amazing new space with an instructional area at one end with an eno board, six computer stations and at the other end a cozy reading nook.  We will open it this week and know the staff and students will enjoy it immensely!  We also have a new computer lab located next to the library, which is already in use.  It's fantastic to have these spaces open!!  Renovation is now taking place in our lower level and will soon begin in our old library.  Pictures below show moving out of the old library, several spaces in the new library and the new computer lab.

Happy New Year!  While it's been quiet since November, our project has continued on behind the walls.  Our new art rooms and library are well on their way.  Flooring is down now in the hallway outside the cafetorium and inside the new art rooms.  New doors are on the library and the new computer lab is also nearing completion.  We have had fun watching our new library renovation through the window.  Wiring has gone in for all the new technology and soon eno boards will be installed.  Now when you walk around the school you can see many new and completed spaces.  The downstairs fourth grade classes moved to the main floor just before vacation, into the rooms vacated by third grade.  The downstairs will now go under renovation to become the band and music rooms.  We expect to move into the new library and art rooms in mid February!  Pictures below show the new flooring, roof work, art rooms, computer lab and library.

What a week it has been! Storm Alfred came with much snow and a week long power outage.  School was cancelled, but our renovation project went on!  Furniture was delivered for our new third grade wing.  Third grade teachers, with the help of our custodial staff, moved their classrooms and set up in their new rooms despite the lack of power.  With sunlight streaming through the windows, they unpacked students' desks, books and teaching materials and created fabulous new classrooms!  It was truly miraculous.  When students arrived back to school, third graders were amazed at their new rooms and there were many smiling faces.  We also have the use of the hallway now connecting the front lobby to the gym, which is wonderful.  It's exciting to have two new wings now.  The old third grade classrooms are already under renovation to become our new library and art rooms which we expect to occupy in late February.  Pictures below show the new third grade hallway, packing and moving, Mrs. Broderick's happy students in their new room and demolition of the old classrooms.

Times flies!  We are less than two weeks away from our third graders moving into their renovated wing.  The third grade teachers got to walk through their new wing and see the classrooms.  They are so excited about moving in!  We are preparing in other ways too.  Each fifth grade class has a third grade buddy class who they will be helping teach how to use the new technology.  One of the pictures below shows Mrs. Mleczko's fifth grade students teaching Mrs. Portnoy's third grade students all about the Eno boards, Ladybug, lighting and sound systems in their rooms.  We continue to enjoy our new cafetorium and had our first show on the new stage.  It was fabulous!  Below you see the hallway flooring installed, students at the assembly, our happy third grade teachers and students teaching about the new technology.

We are all enjoying our new spaces and moving forward with our school year.  Fifth graders have settled into their new wing and are enjoying all it offers including new technology, furniture and bright spaces.  In a few weeks it will no longer be the new wing however, as we will open our newly renovated 300 wing for the third graders! We are very excited about this upcoming move into the east wing. As you can see from the pictures below, our new third grade wing is coming along nicely.  Pictures show the green hallway, cabinets being installed, a classroom, new bathroom and the outer east entrance.  Lockers will be installed soon and furniture will be delivered at the end of October.  We anticipate third grades moving into their new rooms on November 4th.  It will be another celebration! Next will be the renovation of the classrooms across from the cafetorium which will become our new library by April, as well as some new art rooms.

What an exciting school opening this year!  If you drove past MHHS just two weeks before we opened you would have seen walls still down and lots of construction occurring.  It was amazing to watch the transformation when walls went up, windows went in, furniture was delivered, teachers unpacked and we were ready to go!  Then Irene hit town and we opened two days late.  MHHS has a spectacular new wing for our fifth graders and a newly renovated cafetorium.  We hope you'll come by to see both.  Students were amazed on the first day, walking down renovated hallways, seeing our new spaces and even seeing our spaces currently "under construction."  It continues to be a wonderful journey and now we are able to see what it will all look like when completed.  The pictures below show opening of school, students in the new wing and cafetorium, the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new wing, and the wing currently under renovation which will become the new third grade classrooms in November.
