Meeting House Hill School

Beginning July 2011

August 15, 2011

What a difference a week makes in construction!  Pictures below show the front windows finished, cafetorium nearing completion, fancy bathroom sinks and most exciting the furniture for the new wing being delivered.  During the upcoming week the west side parking lot will be paved, more windows installed and we will be moving furniture back into all spaces.  Inside, we are cleaning and preparing rooms for our students.  We can't wait to share it all with staff, students and families when we reopen!  Our office will reopen on August 29 at MHHS. Until then you can continue to visit us at our Consolidated office.

It's exciting to see all the progress at MHHS!  Abatement has been completed on the front of the building and the facade is being totally replaced.  It certainly looks strange to see the front of the school off.  Soon, new windows and facade will be in place.  The new wing continues to look fabulous.  Furniture will arrive in about a week.  While things look torn apart, we are on schedule and before you know it, MHHS will be ready for opening day!  Pictures below show roof work, the open front of the building, the blue walls of the cafetorium, and further progress on the new wing and library courtyard.

Summer is in full swing and so is our building project.  If you have driven by lately, you see lots of trucks, equipment, workers and tenting out front.  All areas of the school are currently being worked on.  The tenting you see is part of the window abatement.  Soon that will be completed and the installation of new windows will be done.  Inside the new wing is almost complete.  Flooring, cabinets and lockers are all installed.  Painting is mostly done.  It is really looking ready!  Furniture for the new wing is scheduled to be delivered mid August.  The cafetorium is also moving along quickly and will be totally new for the opening of school, including a brand new stage and updated kitchen.  The other wings are in various stages of renovation.  Some will be rustic for next year, some will be partially completed and one wing will be shut down for ongoing renovation through the fall.  It continues to be very exciting! We look forward to sharing all the progress when school reopens.  Pictures below show the new wing lockers, flooring and cabinets, the tented front, the window abatement, and our new library courtyard in progress.  We are still enjoying our summer visit at Consolidated.  Our summer school programs have kept us in touch with students and we have enjoyed having them here.  Stop by and visit!

What a busy June we had!  While students were continuing their learning and enjoying end of year activities such as field days, concerts and Step Up Day, the building project was moving forward as well.  Fifth grade students finished their math/science unit on the building project learning about electrical conduits, sprinkler systems, interior design and reading blue prints.  Mr. Schlosser's class wrote journals all year about the project and will be featured on a video project to be shown in the fall.  Fourth grade students grew container gardens on our patio since we had limited outside space.  Our cafeteria shut down the last month to begin renovations and students began eating in our "gymateria."  Everyone was very flexible and all went smoothly.  Outside, site work continued on the West side installing electrical conduits and wiring, and water tanks for our sprinkler system.  The new wing really changed!  Classroom walls were painted, windows installed, bathrooms tiled and cabinets arrived.  Fifth grade teachers were able to tour the wing and see their new classes.  Once students left for the summer, all areas of the building began renovation.  Our MHHS office is now located at Consolidated School in the staff lounge.  We hope you'll check this web site often to see how our project is progressing.  We also hope you'll come visit at our new summer office. Pictures show the new wing rooms, teachers touring, student signed beams installed, our gymateria, gardens and other activities.
