Meeting House Hill School

Academics

Meeting House Hill School offers a full academic program for students in grades three, four and five. Our reading program is based on Reader's Workshop. Reader's Workshop emphasizes the importance of student engagement and the interaction between readers and text.  It provides differentiated instruction in reading.  Reader's Workshop focuses on mini lessons to teach reading strategies.  The purpose of Reader's Workshop is to foster independence among readers. Our writing focus in grade three and four is narrative, while fifth graders learn about expository writing.  The math program is based on state and national standards.  While we use the Everyday Math materials, we also supplement to meet the district's objectives.  Our science curriculum is varied, with many hands on experiences.  Social Studies focuses on our nation and its development.  Students attend specials classes, which include physical education, music, art, library and health.

In addition to the regular education program, our special education programs provide services for children with special needs.  We have a wide variety of programs, which range from inclusion models to self-contained classroom settings. Through RtI/SRBI regular education students receive many interventions and enrichment opportunities as well.

Our school goal this year will focus on:  RtI/SRBI - Response to intervention supports for all students.

Staff meets often through staff meetings and on staff development days to work on implementing these goals.  Teaching teams work as PLCs, "Professional Learning Communities" to coordinate program implementation and learning activities for students.  We have a Peer Mediation Program, which supports students in problem solving issues that arise amongst students.  Our PTO supports our school goals through monetary grants and participating in activities such as coordinating our "Character Board."

We have many co-curricular activities available to students.  Please see the Organizations & Activities page for these opportunities.
