Planning and Placement Team Process
Planning and Placement Team (PPT)
A School Building Planning and Placement Team (PPT) is a group of professionals assigned to a child's school, whose responsibility is to determine whether a child needs special education and to plan in Individualized Education Program (IEP) for that child. Planning and Placement Teams are established at each school building and at the central office level. The Team membership consists of a minimum of a school administrator, a special education teacher, a regular education teacher, a parent and a member of the Pupil Personnel Department. Other specialists and/or the child may be included when appropriate. Parent(s) should feel free to invite anyone to attend these meetings. An interpreter will be supplied if needed.
All children who receive special services must have a written IEP which describes each child's program. All IEP's are reviewed, at least annually, by the PPT.
The IEP
An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a written plan, developed by the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) which describes the educational program for a child who is found to be in need of special education. Parent(s) actively participate in developing the IEP.
The IEP should include: your child's current educational level and special needs; special education and related services planned for your child; annual educational goals; short-term instructional objectives; types of classes to be attended, and any special transportation necessary; the extent to which the child will participate in the regular school program and any modifications of the regular program which may be necessary; the amount of time to be scheduled for each part of the program; and the date on which the program will begin; the criteria to determine if the goals are being achieved and the exit criteria, which will determine when the special program is no longer appropriate New Fairfield Public Schools uses standardized IEP forms and parent(s) are entitled to a copy of the IEP.
