Meal Price Increase
On June 02, 2011 the New Fairfield Board of Education approved a $0.05 meal price increase for the school district’s lunch program effective at the beginning of school year 2011-2012. Subsequently, in school year 2012-2013 the price will increase an additional $0.10 per meal. Please see the chart below
| Current Prices 2010-2011 |
Approved 2011-2012 |
Approved 2012-2013 |
|
| Elementary Schools | $2.25 | $2.30 | $2.40 |
| Middle & High Schools | $2.50 | $2.55 | $2.65 |
| Premium 1 | $3.25 | $3.30 | $3.40 |
| Premium 2 | $3.50 | $3.55 | $3.65 |
The reason for this action relates to the New Fairfield Public Schools’ participation in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Effective July 01, 2011, Section 205 of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 requires all NSLP schools to raise paid lunch prices to move them toward meeting the current net federal reimbursement rate of $2.46 for free lunches. Meal prices have not increased for the past five years, and we wanted to explain the reason for these future price changes. Thank you for understanding.
