State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) (Please click this link to read all the about the grant)
Dear Consolidated Families,
Consolidated School has recently been chosen by the Connecticut State Department of Education to participate in the newly launched State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG). We have been selected as one of twenty schools in the 2011-2014 Cohort. Using Connecticut’s SRBI Tiers of Intervention Framework, an integrated model of literacy instruction and Positive Behavior Supports, consultants from the State Education Resource Center (SERC) will help us to promote improved achievement for all learners.
We are in the process of forming a School Leadership Team. Team members will participate in core training this year, and roll the program out to the full staff next year. Training will help us to create a continuum of support within the school that links efforts to address the academic and behavioral/social needs of students, while continuing to foster systems of communication with families. Two technical advisors will be assigned to our school to provide on-site technical assistance along with professional learning days for teachers and other staff members.
The concept of integrating a strong, data driven core literacy program, targeted tiers of interventions for struggling learners, and systematic behavioral/social learning supports for all students is new and exciting. It is hoped that schools participating in the initial cohort will go on to be models of the philosophy in the state and perhaps the nation. We were chosen for many reasons; firm staff commitment to positive student outcomes and strong home/school connections were among our positive characteristics. We will keep you posted as we learn more about this exciting opportunity!
As we move through this winter season we continue to wait to see if we will have more snow days or not! Hopefully, we will make it to spring without missing more days. Please remember that attendance is critical to your child’s progress. Research shows that the single most important factor in school success is attendance. Please help us to offer an education of the highest caliber to your very deserving children. We appreciate your support in this as in all of our endeavors.
Fondly,
Lynn and Wendy
