Night by Elie Wiesel
English Foundations I
N. Gruenberg with assistance from J. MacKenzie
Introduction
Night is Elie Wiesel's searing autobiographical account of a year inside the barbed wire boundaries of Auschwitz, an infamous concentration camp. Thousands of Jews were forced from their homes, communities, and synagogues into the hellish world of Nazi death camps throughout World War II. Then a teenager, Elie Wiesel was imprisoned in Auschwitz from April 1944 until the liberation of the camps in April 1945. Like many others, he lost his family to the death camps, but he himself survived. Night is the first of several works by the author on this dark period of modern history, but it remains his most powerful literary account of the Holocaust. (Wiesel)
