Living in the 1930's
English II
Mrs. Basso
Welcome to the 1930's of John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men. Your home, activities, clothes, social interactions, environment and jobs are vastly different than anything you have or will experience. This project will take you back in time to learn about the ups and downs of life in the 1930's.
Using the information you uncover as you investigate one of the categories, you will put together a scrapbook that illustrates your experience from this time period. The information can be found on the school website under my name and identified as “Scrapbook Project” Within each category you find websites that relate to your topic. Books will also be available for you to use especially for pictures.
Process
This book will show what life was like for these people from the 1930's who became victims of the Depression and the Dust Bowl. As a result of these two catastrophic events in America, life changed drastically for these people. They became migrant workers, sometimes tenant farmers, lived in migratory labor camps and occasionally became hobos in order to survive.
The Scrapbook.
Your scrapbook will have 8-10 pages, at least. It will tell your story as you experienced one of these categories. In this scrapbook you will include pictures that you download from the internet or copy from books. Include an original explanation that fully explains what is happening to you as you experience this time period. You may also include artifacts or mementos from the time period that people from future generations would be interested in. Use your imagination!
