What Are Your Counselors Currently Doing?
Tom Dickau and all the High School counselors meet weekly as a Department to discuss long- and short-term goals for the Department and for individual counselors.
Currently, all counselors:
 are working with college admissions officers on behalf of New Fairfield seniors. They are also continuing to work with their seniors in the college application process and are exploring opportunities with non-college-bound students.
 have just completed visitations to sophomore and junior classes to explain PSAT results. They are also meeting individually with parents and students who would like more detailed explanations of the test results.
 are examining SAT and ACT scores that arrive on a monthly basis.
 having completed their monthly Connections meetings with seniors, are planning their February and March Connections meetings with juniors.
 attending Pupil Personnel Team meetings for annual reviews of special education students.
 organizing, planning, and holding Child Study Team meetings when concerns arise regarding students brought to their atention by parents, staff, or students themselves.
 attending Section 504 meetings when emergency concerns arise regarding students brought to their atention by parents, staff, or students themselves.
 joining the other school services staff in bi-weekly "Share" meetings, during which the needs of non-special education students are discussed.
 identifying and meeting with students who may qualify for and be interested in the Alternate High School.
 meeting with all students receiving failure notifications.
 directing parents to resources for college financial aid.
 preparing for 8th Grade Parent Night, an informational meeting for parents of students entering 9th grade.
 organizing procedures for the upcoming CAPT administration to sophomores.
 monitoring students who need remedial help for the CAPT.
 meeting with students who qualify for and would benefit from Virtual High School online coursework.
