New Fairfield High School and Middle School has one full time psychologist whose responsibilities also include the 8th grade. The psychologist's role includes the following functions: evaluation of students with suspected or identified learning problems, counseling to students who have emotional and/or adjustment problems, consultative service to staff on student related matters, and participation as chairperson of the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) and a core member of the Child Study Team (CST).
Most referrals to the school psychologist will come from administrators, teachers and parents via school counselors, the Child Study Team, or the PPT. Those suspecting that a student is in need of the school psychologist's services should consult first with the student's guidance counselor. Then, if further action is warranted, consultation directly with the school psychologist and/or referral for an exploratory case conference should be pursued
