Hi, my name is Elisa Bodnar and I am a Speech and Language pathologist (SLP) for first and second grade students at Consolidated school. I received my Masters of Education in Speech Language Pathology in 1995. With my husband previously in the Air Force, I was able to gain experience in Georgia, California, Wyoming, and Colorado in school systems, elderly care facilities, as well as a private practice. Now living in New Fairfield, I like to stay in touch with the community through local groups and activities. I enjoy fitness, outdoor activities and scrap-booking (preserving memories through creative memories photo albums). And as a mother of three girls, there are always plenty of opportunities to interact with people at gymnastics, dance, soccer, swimming, ice skating, Girl Scouts or what ever else is going on this weekend!
Some of you may wonder just what is an SLP and how can an SLP help your son or daughter. Speech-language pathologists address people's speech production, vocal production, swallowing difficulties and language needs through speech therapy in a variety of different contexts including hospitals, through private practice, and in this case, through the school system. Currently, I am licensed and certified in the state Connecticut and an active member of the American Speech/Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
I love interacting with the kids at Consolidated and encourage all parents to stop by and say hello if you have the opportunity. Oh, and by the way, did you know that Humphry Bogart and Marilyn Monroe have been assessed as having a speech disorders? How about Barbara Walters, Bruce Willis and Tiger Woods?
I look forward to a great year at Consolidated getting to know the staff, parents, and most importantly the students.
